i seem to have infected Sabine when I told her about the various coconut projects, including Malta and Stelios.

Now this morning I saw the coconut (Otto brought it, along with ensete ventricosum maurelii and papaya last week) lying in containers in warm salt water.

I was away and only saw it now.

A note with information on it such as change the water in the evening, leave the coconut in the container until Friday, plant it in coconut soil in a pot after 72 hours.

Well, what do you think?

she won't be back until the evening ...

so now comes the next step.

the coconut has now been planted in a small pot with coconut soil.

The location remains the same.

the coconut soil is slightly moist.

now it's probably a case of wait and see or vice versa?

Salt water, interesting. Is this to imitate their natural habitat, close to the sea, or is it to combat fungi?

I think people usually wait for the root to grow before transferring to soil but I guess there are many methods.

I was given three coconut plants by my wife as gift. And with them was a few grow instructions and one was  occasionally get a bucket sea water and water them with it apparently it is what they  need. Makes sense sense to me

yes, Richard. sabine also liked exactly this variant and finally we did.

a colleague of mine planted one directly in his garden (usda zone 8b) in summer 2015 with a similar method, but he had missed the time to dig it up again and take it into his house in the fall.
we were there when he dug it up too late, it had already rooted very strongly and it had healthy leaves for a long time, but it was just too cold and too late at that time ...
the stress was possibly also too great ...
