The long forgotten solitaire palm a beautiful Australian palm. I have three mature beauties in the garden. Tough as well heat tolerant cool tolerant and a little dry tolerant. A great palm and a nice single stem ptychosperma well worth growing.

I've got a baby. Apparently it was too bright in the Palm Condo™ for it, so now it's in the Future Spider Mite Factory© and I repotted it not too long ago and got it out of the cheap dollar store soil. Hopefully it'll move more now.

Once again another of our outstanding native palms that is almost unknown to the common gardener. Extremely fast growing, tidy and elegant, low care too. A heavy frost will singe the leaves but they grow back quickly.  Full sun scorches them when young but even very light dappled shade during the strongest sun times is quite enough to protect them. When I moved house,  it was among my first palm purchases. Unbeatable for courtyards and small garden areas as they dont get very tall but just enough to give light shade over a small area. What is not to love ?

I don’t think it would like it very much. That’s a bit too cold.

There a winner alright, and you used to be able to buy them at target and big w but alas no more of that. One splendid palm worth growing, one problem with collectors is once it’s common they don’t look at them anymore moving onto the next new exotic and if that one stays rare it’s all the rage and they never lose interest in that palm. Australia doesn’t have a lot of native palms in comparison to some countries, but the ones we do have are unique and beautiful.

I think outdoors I'm really limited to Sabals. I'm still babying by Butia x Lytocaryum hybrid along but it still hasn't pushed out a new spear yet. If it lives, it goes in the yard.

Well at least it’s still alive so there is some hope mum will get a palm.

I've got a handful of Sabal Bermudana in her bathroom window. When they get planted out, she's getting one of my orange spider plants. She always comments on it and loves them. I'll just have to be the caretaker because she kills EVERYTHING. She thinks every plant needs to be in a bigger pot.

I don't think she's dug up anything and pooped in the pots but she's getting up there in years and dementia runs in the family.

Ain't no cash around here. What my grandparents had saved up all went to pay for my Granny's nursing home care. Supposedly my dad has a large life insurance policy but who knows if he kept it, and we'd probably have to fight his new wife for that. That's another story though that'll turn into a therapy session real quick.

So I guess you're right. Just grow palms so we can look at them in the breeze while we drool and wait for our pills and pudding cups.

My dad got out of the Navy and took a contracting job in Saudi Arabia for the money but my mom wouldn't go and me and my brother would have been sent to boarding schools. My mom said no to that too. So while my dad is over there, he meets this woman - a nurse, she's Australian. Why would a woman want to go work in a country where women are treated like that? Apparently she was hiding because her ex husband was a banker and imbezzled a bunch of money. Anyway she has the same name, birthday, hair color, eye color as my mom and they got married on my parents anniversary and they currently live in the house where I grew up. She uhhh she does not like me lol. The first time I met her she was wearing a tube topp and leather pants. We were at the mall and I ran into some friends and I was so embarrassed.... Anyway, yeah, palms and pills.

Just take the pills and we can forget about her together. Money does strange things to people! I can understand relationship breakdowns but it’s usually the children that feel it the most!

Depends on humidity how much sun they can take. But they certainly like a bit of shade and good morning sun and after that dappled bright light. They will yellow in full sun.

Ive had these dudes for almost a year now and they've been blasted by the sun most of they life and somehow still going, they sit in a standing water most of the time so thats probably why they still are living, not looking good though, they getting back to it.

I'm hoping mine starts to do more now that I got it into better soil. I guess all of my plants would be happier if I mixed up another batch of Stink Water™ for them, it's been a while. I'll just light a bunch of scented candles or explode a can of Febreeze in here or something.

I posted this in my personal thread but since it's relevant, my baby is pushing a new spear after putting it in better soil and getting it out of the Palm Condo™ and out of the super bright light. IMG_20250617_200042.thumb.jpg.e88d71f9012413923ea0a957239a2b45.jpg

This is a local place. You know the food is good when it's an old craphole building with stuff like this painted on it and the parking lot is full and there's a line. IMG_20250415_153837.thumb.jpg.645d24db5aa5cecd87e08170b841a101.jpg

Every town has a favourite chicken shop and the good old Chinese restaurant that’s a sure winner. I think chicken chef is in Canada from memory.
