It's about time I replace this sick bananas with something that will actually work. The thing I'm asking about is, is it ok to plant in the soil that the bananas were in? I'm gonna replace it with a Butia, but I want to be sure that it's ok to do so, or do I have to really dig out the old soil and replace it with "clean" soil? I don't wanna harm the Butia and potentially infect it, if that's even possible. :indifferent:

Should be fine. I’ve planted palms right on top of where I’ve dug out bananas and they’ve done well.

Just make sure you completely dig out that corm. Otherwise the bananas will try to come back later. Maybe try moving the bananas somewhere else in the yard to give them a second chance at life. PS: That plant doesn't look bad, just maybe a little thirsty.

The thing is, the banana plant always gets these little dots, and they prematurely kill the new leaves. I’ve done all I could to treat it. I’m afraid if I keep it, whatever it may have would spread to my other bananas. It’s too late now, though, because I threw it into swamp water. It hurts to have had to remove them because I really did want them to work out, but it’s been 2 years of nothing, and the same issue every year no matter what I did and treated it. Which gives me a bad first impression of Musa basjoo with my own care, but I’d definitely try again with them from another source.

The Orinoco, which I care for the same way, gains more height quicker and never sheds the leaves prematurely so I’ve just had enough 🫠

That banana actually looks pretty good considering where you are. Bananas want rich soil, water, sunlight and heat. It is obviously in a full sun location but I’m guessing that it is not getting enough heat and water.
