Hi ! I’m new at growing palms and I have like 40 that are growing. Wasn’t expecting all of them to grow but they did.

When do you take them out of their first pot ? Here are my « advanced » ones.

The purple ones are Sabal Palmettos and the other ones are Queens.

Sabal’s are stalled at this stage for a few months but my Queens are growing fast.

thanks !

I would wait until the roots fill the pots. My guess is Spring, 2026. Then you can move them up. If you can, find a place outside that will give them 3 or 4 hours of morning sun. However, in the shade by 11AM. Also, be careful b/c squirrels will chew them up looking for the seeds.

You have a while to go before they are planted out or transplanted into another container. At least  3 years. The ones in the pictures provided have at least 2 to 3 years before transplanting. Unfortunately palms are slow especially as seedlings. Even to grow a nursery it takes around 5 years before you can really start to sell plants that are ready for either planting or repotting patience with palms.

The ones in the left two rows are ready to be transplanted.  If the roots aren't coming out of the bottom pots, then no need to transplant them, unless you want to try something different to spur on growth.  Sabals are known to stall randomly in either pots or the ground.  That isn't anything unusual.  They go at their own pace.
