It’s raining again! So a bit of potting ip for a spot of fun, this time a few late comers in the licuala department, the last to germinate after I already picked out about 50 seedlings already. I did manage to get one variegated seedling from this batch so quite lucky so far. And he’s onto his second leaf and holding true. Locally sourced seeds so I had a good germination rate. Time will tell how they go just the one variegated one is enough for me to be happy about the situation! And no the spider didnt seem to mind me working around him, or visa versa!

He might hold true, the only spider we worry about is the red back she is a pretty nasty one and the funnel web is the real killer in Australia, oh and the white tailed spider that rots your flesh away after been bitten and as usual we have them all in my area.

Not a single death from a spider in Australia since the 70s. The danger is probably a bit overplayed and that looks like a harmless huntsman. That being said, doesn’t mean I’m not terrified of them 😆

Yer only one recorded death  from a red back  ever recorded. And the funnel web get to hospital in time and you will live. Mind you I don’t think I will be picking up any funnel web spiders in a hurry.

As your intern, what kind of protective gear do I get? I am terrified of spiders. I got bit by a brown recluse when I was little and never got over it. If it has more than 4 legs I don't like it.

What a spectacular sight that Licuala could make one day. Never heard of species tuckeri before however. What is the difference between them and a regular ramsayii ?

And they will have to pry it from dead fingers to get it from me as well.
