Hi I live in southern Orlando, Florida, USA. We have had four royal palms out front of our house that have been doing great .

Except in the past couple months we have noticed two patches of trunk rot - one on each of the two palms , while the other two palms are perfectly fine.

Any ideas what’s going on?? Is this primarily fungal or mechanical damage (ex. from weed trimmers). How can I treat these palms?

The trunks do get wet from the sprinklers a few times a week, all around the trunks, but only 2/4 palms have these patches in specific areas. Also we’ve had them for one winter which was warm (>35 deg F) so we do not think this is cold damage.

X2. Looks fungal to me but no experience. I have 3 that have gotten large and want to avoid. Any insight is appreciated.

I've seen this happen where they get hit with sprinklers in Lake Wales.  You can try turning the sprinklers off and see if it continues to spread, but that's about it at this point.
