CA freeze or is it just me?

Last night I got down to 27.6F. Hard freeze. Much of the ground was frozen till noon in the shade. Warmed up quickly when the sun came up. Scared me. Good thing all my cold tender palms were inside the greenhouse.

Temp right now is 34F. Falling fast.

With the exception of one morning when some high clouds moved in, I've experienced at or below freezing temps. with with some white frosts and 3 or 4 mornings of thin ice in a bucket of water on my deck. I've moved the temp. probes around and the coldest was 27.5F on my deck, but I expect 29 or 30F. would be a more accurate low.

Volenteer tomato plants with overstory are still green, those exposed in the coldest areas, about 50% damaged. Lantana foliage is turning purple but no ruptured wood yet. When the Lantana stems split, then I know I've had a killing freeze. Two mornings, my Parajubaea T V T was covered with a light frost. Stay tuned. It's a little warmer this morning at 35F. but frost on the deck. This cold has lasted quite a while, but it could be worse, like last year.

Hi Terry,

I hope that is more accurate. I do believe I'm in a little bit of a cold spot in Temecula though. I'm in Tampa right now and won't be home untill late tonight. We'll see tommorrow how everything looks.

I'm going to invest in a better thermometer to see for sure.

Still have had some chilly nights. Lots of frost in the morning. Have had to use the ice scraper several times this week. We are going to get some storms comming in on monday throughout the week. Tonight may be the last frosty night for a while, atleast I hope.

Can I join the club? It was 31.5F where my sensor was on a fencepost, in an open area on the south side of my house. The same area had frost on the lawn while lawns on the north and west had no frost. 2 other locations read around 34F for a low.

That same cold spot read 36F at midnight, which had me dragging all my pots into the garage.

Now I've moved everything to my back patio, under a 12x20ft second story deck. It's turning into a workout.

Come on guys.....We are sounding like a bunch of old mother hens. Cheer up, the weather pattern is changing, some clouds here this morning, and it's a balmy 43F here this morning which is a darn sight better than 33 F. and frost. It looks rain is on the way and I'll gladly chance a cold front to the dry cold air from Canada we have experienced this past week.
