Is it better to start sable minor and Rhapidophyllum hystrix from seed or just buy a plant? (Zone 6b)

I think either one needs to have roots that fill a 10" pot prior to planting out in a cold zone.

I would definitely buy large plants. The bigger the better. Seeds are fun and great for growing the collection, but growth is slow. Keep in mind that both palms grow best in hot areas so growth will be a little slower in your area. The minor below is about 3 years old from seed.IMG_0329.thumb.jpeg.b0b2317e6faa02dcc3d2c8011831f978.jpeg

Buy larger plants $25 or so will save you at least 2 or 3 years. If you really want to grow from seed Sabal minor is the faster of the two.
