My Butia spathes just keep getting longer  and fatter and any day now they will pop open . I have 5 total but one is a dud possibly because it started growing earlier when there may have been a little more cold around ? I'll try to see about making some jelly when they ripen .

Below you can see the dud on the left .  It is kind of a mottled brown color .The others look healthy .

Not many people in my area have a feather leaf palm frond growing right outside their window .

Mine flowered for the first time this year.  How long since you first noticed the first spathe?  I'm curious to see the difference between here and there.  Mine first one appeared in late April and there's 4 total (3 have opened).rsz_img_20250503_152246891.thumb.jpg.d5713a6d2d57ff1dcec68d281bc2ea85.jpg

I'll try to send you a picture of mine when they open . I remember mine being orangeish . Maybe I forgot the color since it didn't flower last year .

I saw my first spathe on  March  6th . It's the one that is a dud possibly due to being exposed to  a little more cold than the others ?

Interesting - I suppose cold has something to do with it.  Mine shot straight up like yours and opened pretty quickly - I'd say within 10 days or so.  It's been in the upper 80's to mid 90's here in the afternoons each day.  I'm curious to see if mine will flower again in September or October.

@WSimpson That is pretty amazing and if I'm seeing it correctly, that's a 2nd story window! Looks great.

Thanks ,

I haven't seen any in the area and that one is so healthy you'd think more people would try it , especially in good  microclimates .
