Irritatea deltoidea socratea rostrata who has them growing (Hawaii)

Stilt root palms are quite fascinating in the way the way they support there trunk, dubbed the walking palm apparently moving over time. Yet I don’t think they would pack up and move to new location anytime. So where are those lucky Hawaii growers who have them in there collection or any other place on the planet. I only have small ones in my garden they just simply where not available years ago in my area, unless you where lucky enough to travel and collect the seeds.

Socratea and Iriartea are also good growers for me in the mountains of PR.

Actually I like most any palms with stilts AND the rhino beetles don’t seem to find them nearly as tasty as so many others.

Thanks for the photos!

Iam glad I don’t have the beetle problem that’s ravaging palms in that part of the world. Both species are new to me so Iam definitely looking forward to growing them if winter does not take its toll on them in the ground.
I think of Puerto Rico and think it would be a paradise for growing, but I guess all microclimates have advantages and disadvantages, and your disadvantage is the beetle.

I have a few Iriatia deltoidea germinated so there will be a few more planted in my garden.
