I got in after dark today, as is usually the case in winter, but this caught my headlights coming in so I went out and snapped a pic.  The rose is a Lady of Guadalupe and palm is a Trachy (I think).  The palm is still pouting a bit from being transplanted in August.

So, this post is a bit different.  This one is sound.  During the summer rains, the insect and amphibian noise can get louder than you might imagine.  So, I walked outside and thought I might turn on my little voice recorder.  This should bring up some thoughts of a good Louisiana humid sub-tropical night for you.  It is un-enhanced, just standing in the backyard.

How do you sleep, thats worse than the traffic at my place.

Well, two things.  One is it is not like that everynight, but in the summer after it has rained several days in a row, the crescendo can build up pretty loud like that.   But as you heard those noises are very rythmic.  Nothing keeps me up like a single danged kricket.  Second is sometimes if little noises bother us, we just flip the central HVAC to fan only which drowns out the remaining outside noise.

It's alive out there!  Keith, how did you record your "New Dawn" soundtrack?

Palmo-T:  Nice use of perspective in your photo!

This is pretty random, a night shot out back after putting up a few lights just because it's so dark so early and I like looking at the garden at night:

Yeah, damn cane toads are everywhere. I'm surprised my frog population is so healthy considering the toads are all over the place. I have about 8 species in the garden.

I love the frog and other critter nioses!  We have french doors in our bedroom that open to the back porch.  As soon as the nights get below 80, we open the windows and doors and listen to the night sounds.  You do get used to it after a while but I miss it when I have to close the house up and turn on the air-conditioner.
