I'm a big fan of PalmGain, but it's only available online and I just ran out of my last bag of Pennington Palm & Hibiscus fertilizer, I wasn't able to finish fertilizing everything. I was wondering if anyone has another good fertilizer that's available in stores?

I buy EB Stone palm and Hibiscus food . Organic fertilizer but I only use it on a few palms . I use it every couple months or so. It really helped my Roystonia Oleracae and the Chambeyronia Macrocarpa . Harry

edit: when I first planted all my palms I used Palm Plus which was an Apex product . I would buy 2 - 25lb bags and mix it with mulch . It really helped them get established for the first few years . I used to get it at an ag supply store . Much more economical and good quality fertilizer. Harry

I sadly don't have access to these products in store, It's rare apart from miracle gro where they sell palm specific blend or tropical fertilizers. Pennington was the last one I saw which Im not even sure if they have it anymore as the bags I got the year before were on clearance.

If you can get a decent price on Sul-Po-Mag, then you can also top dress with your egg shells (crushed) and coffee grounds, if you consume those products.

I selectively add azomite, greensand/greenstone, worm castings and kelp meal too, but even without any of those additions you'd have a pretty good spectrum of nutrients. The results won't be instant, but these products should last longer than synthetic fertilizers that can quickly wash through in a regularly irrigated space. "Healthy" soil and the resultant healthy garden will bring worms, bugs and birds, not to mention the ever-mysterious mycorrhizae, all of which can make their contribution to your garden.

You might spend on the Sul-Po-Mag, but the other stuff will be free, as will some yard trimmings and rotting wood for moist forest-dwelling species.

I will probably forego the broad spectrum organic fertilizers I have bought in the past, as they're mostly redundant by this approach.

You might need to get outside the big box stores to find a 50lb bag of Sul-Po-Mag though.

I don't claim any expertise, just one perspective, I hope you find what you seek.

Not a brand, just a common name for soluble sulfate of potash-magnesia. It's a natural mineral called langbeinite that has been crushed and bagged.

Sometimes it may be labeled langbeinite, other times Sul-Po-Mag or simply sulfate of potash-magnesia.

I bought a 50lb bag of Langbeinite or Pulpomag shipped from something like Seven Springs Supply.  I doubt you would find it locally.  You could maybe find it at a local Ewing Irrigation, or SiteOne Landscape supply.

I use Sunniland Palm 6-1-8 from the big blue box store.  SiteOne and Ewing carry Lesco fertilizers and might have a good 8-2-12 at the local stores.

I like Sta-Green 16-0-10 "Natural" Fertilizer from the the blue big box store. The potassium is in sulfate form (lower salt index than cheaper chloride) and the nitrogen is a mix of organics plus polymer sulfur coated urea (slow release nitrogen). It's sold as a lawn fertilizer but I use it for palms and tropicals/citrus. There are micros from the organics/kelp and of course the price is right
