How long does it take Hemithrinax ekmaniana to really get going? I have a couple I started from seed that are coming up on a year old and are still tiny < 2 inch thin leaves. I have seen people describe this as the "grass leaf" stage. Does anyone know how long this period lasts before it starts putting out more mature leaves?

To give you some ideas of their speed of growth, here is a batch I started in 2022. That's already 3 years of growth under Arizona growing conditions. Not super slow, but slow enough that buying an established plant can be an investment... Most of them are just starting to grow their first character leaf at this point. I've sold several from this batch, but none were more than 1 character leaf. Figure on 2-3 years of grass blade stage growing outside of Florida. Most casualties happen within the first 2 years. After that, they are trouble free. 👍🌴

Here is a 6 year old tree from a previous batch I grew, just to give you some more perspective on what to expect. It is still in a 1 gallon pot, but is now ready to step up into a 5 gallon pot this year. Great species to grow, especially if your yard space is limited. Mine have seen high 20'sF to 120F with zero problems. Very trouble free palm once you get them past the blades of grass stage.

Just potted up the above 1 gallon tree into a 7 gallon decorative ceramic pot. Should be good for another 5 years by my calculations! 👍😆
