I have been residing in Spain for a bit and a few weeks ago I had the chance to take a weekend trip to Lisbon, Portugal and check out the gardens there. These are from mid march. I hope you guys enjoy

This is Butia capitata. A palm I actually never saw before in person until now. A lot of palms labeled at B. capitata in the Southeast US are actually B. odorata. They both look similar.

An unmarked Sabal. Not sure what this one might be.

Sensational! Someone reported that this garden has a Royal Palm, which may be one of the most northern specimens in the world. However, I seem to recall pictures of a well-established Royal Palm located in the Mediterranean area of the Italian Riviera.

What you look for is what is looking

I think that sabal palmetto is actually a bermudana or some type of hybrd, it doesn't look like the pure sabal palmettos of Florida

This is what I am thinking.

I actually did not see any royals. I have in Andalucía but this is further south. I would think there would be some in Alicante, Valencia or the Balearics. I have not seen any in Barcelona where I am for the time being.

But the Italian Rivera is farther north than all these places so that is impressive.

This is the Butia from tropical Central Brasil?  :) I haven't seen one in person either.  It was too early for it to be fruiting when you visited but it supposedly has the largest fruit of any Butia.
