All my sabal (major) palms...

Here's a look at all of my Sabal Palms, besides sabal minor. It would be a tough choice for me in my zone to say which would be hardier, these from the video or windmill palms. I like them all though.

Did you plant these all from seed?

No. The sabal palmetto and birmingham were a 3 gallon size and the brazoria was a 7 gallon. All planted in 2020 I believe, or 2021.

@palmofmyhandYou probably could but sabals are finicky. I purchased mine as 3 and 7 gallon plants. I assume they were grown from seed by the seller.

yea I was referring to sabals of that size, did you fray the roots at all when planting or just drop em in with new soil around them?

I just dropped them right in the ground, no new soil or anything. You definitely don't want to mess with the roots, especially for sabal palms. I know that's the standard practice for trees, shrubs, etc... but not palms. At least that's how I've always understood it.

I've heard that about Sabal palm roots as well.  I have some Sabals I grew from seed in in a 10 gallon container.  I want to plant them in the ground but I'm nervous I'm going to mess them up when transplanting.  🤔

Just be easy with them. Slip the pot off as best as possible. If the roots have grown through the pot and won't pull out without tearing them, cut the pot from the bottom and just plant the bottom plastic piece with it, so as not to disturb the roots. It's not sensitive like brain surgery, just be easy with the roots and palm as best as you can. You'll be ok, just treat with some care. Hopefully that makes sense.
