Kerriodoxa elegans tubes looking good

Featured Replies

I got a thousand kerriodoxa seeds about 3 years ago. I was growing them in the hothouse and it seems iam not a hothouse grower it was to difficult for watering. As baby seedlings it was fine then as they grew it got more difficult to monitor for water combined with temperatures above 46 degrees Celsius. Just too much to control in getting it right. So I removed the plastic roof about 3 months ago and a huge difference in growth health perhaps kerriodoxa dont like hothouse conditions, Johannesteijsmannia love hothouse conditions and you can water them like crazy without overwatering. So a learning curve growing kerriodoxas on mass. But I think I have worked them out for now.

They are looking very nice . Good thing you caught that , it would be a shame to have those fall in decline. Maybe like Howea F. just need the cool down period every night? With the cool evening to early morning air they can get that cool down. Either that or they just don’t like heat. Harry

edit: will you replace the roof for winter?

It was a quick learning curve trying to figure out to grow them on mass, one or two you can move around and get it right. 700 of them is a bit different, I won’t replace the plastic they seem to be fine the few I have in the other greenhouse, but I did find the first winter it had a bit of a go at them losing around 100 or so seedlings. One thing I did do wrong was water in a late afternoon in mid winter and it was one of the coldest days the next morning with temperatures of 2 degrees celsius. So they where cold and wet in the morning with the daytime temperature of 16 degrees which is a cool day for us.
