You know we need a topic.

So far this late winter and early spring has been really pleasant.  70's and 80's and for the most part, lots of sun, the humidity has been low, as well as virtually no mosquitoes  Finally getting some rain, it has been a long time and much needed.

Here in the RGV where I live the first measurable rain of 2025 came early yesterday morning and boy did it come!  As of 7:00 last evening there had been 9.3" (236 mm) of rain in less than 20 hours and heavy rain continued through the night.  I haven't waded through 5" of standing water to see how much more is in the rain gauge since 7:00 pm but the entire yard is flooded this morning.  Thankfully it has stopped and the sustained winds have diminished from yesterday's 25 mph.  Note the cute refugees on the front porch!

That is crazy.  I saw they were predicting 6-9" the other day but pictures speak a 1000 words.  Is there a river off in the distance or is that just the rain?

All the water in the photos is the result of the rain.  The second pic I took from my front door looking towards the highway which is also covered as is the field of corn on the other side of the highway!  Plants just emerged last week.  😔  It's going to take awhile before I can get to the store!

@Fusca Looks like your lake was deeper than mine but it was alarming all the same when water rose from alley, surrounded the patio, then started washing over it. Luckily my door is another couple inches higher, and that's all I needed. I'm sure the plants will put some fast growth now!

Let's hope the plants take off!  God was merciful - the water stopped a few inches short of my door also!

I can only imagine the stress, sense of dread and maybe a little panic as the waters kept rising. I’m glad you all made out ok and no water in your homes.

We had a good dumping today that left some deep pools of water on my lawn in the usual spots. With the warm weather this week and warm nights I expect things will explode with growth.

Houston IAH set a new record high low yesterday with a minimum of 76F, the previous record was 72F. Looks like more 70+ degree nights before winter roars in for the weekend (ugh). I'm so excited for the upcoming wet season and uncontrollable growth 😄, better not be a bust!

90F today and mostly cloudy with 75F dew point??! I love it

First heat wave inbound.  I'm seeing basically triple digit temps for Austin and San Antonio for the next ten days with a few days over 100F and 105F or higher possible.

A little bit cooler here in Houston.

Texas will be one of the hottest places on the planet this week, surpassing the Sahara.

It hasn't been as hot so far as they were calling for at my place.  It looks like we got to 94F, with the next few days marginally cooler.

It was 102F and humid for me yesterday, next week will continue being hot, but the dew points are much more comfortable.

A good storm last night resulted in 2.5" of rain.  Definitely appreciated that as things were starting to dry out.  And the temps are going to be in the upper 80s for the next number of days, with more rain so perfect growing weather.

It's a good start for here, I've had a bit over a foot of rain for the spring and about 18" to 20" so far for 2025, which is more than many of the yearly rainfall totals since 2020.

What are your normal spring rain totals?

You've had about 3 x as much rainfall than I have had here in 2025 then it seems. But like you say, it has been generous for you guys compared to recent drier years up to now. Everything should be growing pretty well for you with all that spring rain.

Here, spring and summer are generally on the dry side, with up to 75% of the annual rainfall coming from October - February nowadays. It's certainly less evenly distributed than it used to be here, although it varies year on year. Autumn/fall and winter are pretty much guaranteed to be rather wet however. It’s just how ‘dry’ spring and summer is that varies.

Some months can be pretty dry i.e. March of this year with 4mm / 0.15 inches. Some summer months like June 2018, July 2022 etc have less than 0.5mm / 0.02 inches. So while spring can get some very dry months, the absolute driest of the dry months come in summer in June or July. But again that varies year on year.

2025 rainfall for London Heathrow so far...

161.8mm / 6.37 inches at Heathrow in 2025, half of which came in January and a fair bit in February too (winters are getting wetter).

Just hit the rain lottery! 0.5" all in a 15 minute afternoon tropical downpour 😍

The rainy season seems to be delivering... right around 20 inches for the year so far. Hoping to hit or exceed the long term annual average of 50 inches this year

No rain here as usual.  I often see the storms, I can hear them but as soon as they hit my side of the beltway and my location they split around me north and south.  I'm convinced Lake Houston has an effect on them, I've seen it happen more times than I can count in only a year and a half.  The West and NW side of Houston, even the core gets way more rain and storms than my location, I'm always watching the satellite views when rain is around.

I rarely get these afternoon pop up storms.  I hope this year isn't like the last one where I went over 2 months without rain in July and August, even with storms popping up frequently in the area.  There is still reasonable moisture in the ground , so the watering hasn't been too bad.

Looks like next week could bring some rain though.

Yeah it's crazy, some of the underpasses near downtown completely flooded/filled up the other day after receiving 3 inches in less than an hour. SE Houston around League City/NASA typically gets the most rainfall. Anecdoctally, SW Loop around Bellaire/Meyerland seems to overperform too.

Summer 2023 was the worst ever. Anything but that . The last "near-perfect" summer was in 2021. Some winters actually close to the 27 degree average would be nice too, so tired of this string of super cold snaps.

Seems to have been a bit stronger than expected.  I even got 1/10 inch here in Port Isabel.  Was not forecast to get any.

Same here.

Thankfully we've had decent rain at intervals (no all at once like in March).  The flood was a blessing and a curse.  I'm currently getting good growth from palms that seemed to just exist with irrigation from city water.  My big Butia and multiple Chamaedorea radicalis flowered for the first time.  I lost an avocado tree, a papaya, a small loquat tree and possibly a good sized Dioon spinulosum because of the flood.  Jury is still out on the Dioon - the caudex is still firm.

I received somewhere between 11/2 to 13/4 inches of rain over the past two days. It's nice to get usable rain.
