Hi y’all, my needle palm’s growing pretty fast and I’m thinking about the right way to divide it.  I mostly want to separate the first one since it’s growing very fast. What’s the best way to do this without digging up the whole palm and while making the least damage. Help is well appreciated. (It went through 0F for one morning this winter, but it’s done pretty well.)

Divide it? Not very likely to be a success, at least from my perspective.

I have heard of people doing it, but with much bigger palms. The pups they separated were easily the size of your palm. Personally I wouldn’t risk it.  I think the chances of the pups surviving are unlikely and you create an open wound on a palm growing in a marginal climate.
