in 2016 I bought some patrick schaffer(sp?) hybrids.  I gave most away but this hybrid.  I have observed distinct differences in B x J and J x B ( mother plant is first) at jungle music and also on palmtalk.  I have a trunking B x J, looks like a classic BxJ wih the corkscrew recurved leaves.  I actually gave away (2) Patrick B x J plants long ago.  This hybrid always looked different from those B x J as a seedling.  I have had this hybrid ( a BxJ mother pollinated by a Jubaea father) in a 20 gallon container for at least 5-6 years not sure I wanted to plant it here due to the humidity/rain.  It seemed to do fine in the container but it grew slowly.  Day before yesterday I decided to plant it in an area of my yard that is mostly sand(80%?).  I put some perlite and turface MVP to allow for moisture retention without slowing drainage.  Here is the palm its about 5 1/2 feet tall.  Looks like it may have more Jubaea blood than any B x J I have seen.   Anyone else out there have experiences or pics of a patrick hybrid?

Yours should do well if it made it to that size and health in the first place.  Please post a photo of your Butia x Yatay(s) too.  Here are a couple of nicer BJxJ that I own… form varies quite a bit:

Correction to pic request… Yatay X Jubaea please 😏.  My few sensitive JxYatay seedlings died 😬🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I never had a Butia Yatay x Jubaea.   I did have two yatay mukles from patrick that I gave away to friends.  I have an unknown butia x J and its a bit damaged from hurricane milton in october 24.  I expect later this year it will be mostly recovered.  I kept the (BxJ)xJ in the garage when those 110 mph winds came through so it is undamaged.  Most of my yard is in recovery mode and will be probably till summer 2026

With jubaea as the mother I expect florida climate will be tougher than a butia mother cross.  I figure to be gambling a bit with (B xJ )  x J and florida weather.  It had periods of being unhappy with mold spots likely due to constant morning dew and a part shade position when it was in a small pot.   Dew is always heavier near the ground.   The palm seemed to improve in a bigger pot(20 gallon) further off the ground in a dry area with half day sun.  My B x J butia also did not like foliage being close to the ground, losts of mold spots in lower leaves with morning dew close to the ground.  So I hope it is far enough off the ground and getting lots of sun and I will prevent overhead water.

Here is post hurricane(6 months) B x J, kind of lost some of its leaf stems were kind of rearranged by the wind.

Hmm… the Circa 2014 you says otherwise 😏.   I should have tried the YxJ cross… JxY was too finicky for Florida’s humidity.

Only seedling I have planted out from patrick is the aforementioned (BxJ)xJ.

I did have some seedlings, I think 7-8 from patrick.  Yatay mules BxJ and (BxJ)xJ.  I think some of those BxJ were yatay, I dont recall as I keep recalling the yatay mules.  Some seedlings I gave a way, a couple died in pots in california due to my inattention, I dont recall which died.  I shipped those seedling back from california where I was working.  Keeping small seedlings protected in the santa anas in OC was lesson I learned the hard way, a few died.   The BxJ I have now is from Jungle music.  So I have one surviving palm from patrick, pictured here.  Those Yatay x J look amazing indeed.
