I think this species is often overlooked in the palm community but I think when they mature and get some size, they can look really nice. This one is one of my greenhouse palms and it is about 3 feet tall. It even produces inflorescences regularly but obviously nothing comes from it.

They don't call it elegans for nothing.

Mine are still small, but I have a handful of them in the understory.

Here is one more than 10 years old. They grow easily here in Rome, the only problem is they do not tolerate any sun

Mine are somewhere between 10 and 15 years old. Tough as nails as long as they get shade. Mine have been relocated a few times and even once took a reciprocating saw to the rootball for separation. They're in the darkest corner of the yard but a recent freeze took out my banana canopy so this new exposure to direct evening sun is not doing them any favors. cham_trunk.thumb.jpeg.d83fed3861ec91f18ed581fe0a075fb3.jpeg

Does this one  qualify as large and mature, 25 years old should be enough time to mature.

I am in Barcelona right now and it is not uncommon to see this palm in planters. I do not know what the longterm plan is for these palms, since they're solitary, so I assume they'll just compete till death until a few survive? They are flowering but I have not seen any produce fruit, but it might be too early in the season for that.

Insanely gorgeous. I grew up keeping aquariums. Fish tanks and palms go together
