Hi All,

I planted six St Peter’s seeds and just one sprouted, after six weeks it’s 35mm high, however in the last week or two it hasn’t grown at all.

I wonder if the pot is too shallow; I planted it in around 11cm of sand/rock and I’m thinking this may not be enough.

Would I be better off transplanting it to something deeper?

Not at this time. Seed nutrients are currently providing for the plants growth for the first season. No need to repot the single seedling for at least 1 year. Insure that sand is ALWAYS moist. When repotting, use a more organic mixture, so seedling has something to eat. Sand is fine for sprouting, but leaves an empty plate for further growth.

Very nice. Reminds me of Y.faxoniana. Wish you the best of luck.

Never heard of St Peter’s palm myself. Palms as seedlings require small pots that suit the type of seedling, ie Johannesteijsmannia needs a deep tube not too round but depth, a small tiny basselina would want a small 50 mm tube. It goes by root development at the first transplant stage judging the seedling is the tricky part, overpot   and the seedling will most likely suffer and struggle or die.
To me your seedling looks like it is in to large of a container if it was germinated in the container it’s time to move it to a tube.
Good luck

I am shocked. You've never heard of the common old every day garden variety St Pete's ? I don't have one because I see them everywhere. What a strange place you must live in

Thanks happypalms, however I’m confused now, to repot it or not. Thing is it’s not growing, at what point does one say it’s time to repot?
