Queen Palm in 35 F

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone and thank you in advance! I have an enormous potted queen palm and I've heard that they can withstand 25 F in a container. I broght it inside when it was a low of 30 F at night for good last year around Thanksgiving.

I would like to put it back outside for good when low temps are consistently 35F again. My question is, how long should I look for temps to be consistently 35F? At least two weeks? Three?

I have never put a plant outside in lows before 55 F.

Thank you!

two weeks of lows consistently above 35F should plenty safe in my opinion. If your weather is similar to mine, I'd expect the last frost in the first or second week of April. If you wait an extra two to three weeks after that, then you're pushing into late April or early May to move it outside. Fine if you want to be 100% safe but also probably unnecessary

I'd be planning to move it outside sometime in April. I'm looking at the weather for Buckingham, VA from April 2024 and it looks like you'd have been fine doing that. Especially since in April and May in Virginia you start getting consistently warm days for it to shrug off a few hours of temps dipping below 35F

I thank you for that. I really to appreciate it!

My guess (also) is mid-April for your site. To be safe, keep it near the wall of the house as they all bleed a little heat.

Thank you! Yes sir, I will put it right up against the brick wall on my deck and in a corner of two brick walls to boot.

The good news with Syagrus Romanzoffiana is that they are not root sensitive , they can recover from mild disturbance . Moving it around in its container doesn’t bother them . Hopefully you have it on wheels , like a furniture dolly or something. . They can withstand low temps but only if short spells. I would keep it protected if daytime temps don’t warm up considerably.
