I finished planting 6 pomegranates to a hedge and after the projected rains have quit, I'll be adding 3 or 4 figs.

I'm don't know how much I've planted but its a lot.  About 15 palms, 7 fruit trees and various other plants.  Lots more to go.

Alright then. Nothing fantastic but I like 'em, Myrica california (Pacific Wax Myrtle). They've naturalized over parts of the island especially the west coast. It replaced a pear tree that the previous owners planted. I've found that fruit trees produce way more fruit than we could ever eat and 95% of it falls on the ground. The birds will find shelter with this new planting year round.

I love wax myrtle.  We planted some here. Might be a different kind, but they made an amazing property line screen.

I have some Japanese Mustard Greens and some Bok Choy going but I hope it doesn't get hot too quick (It probably will).

I am bit behind on getting my tomato plants.

I will see how some of my friends and acquaintances do with their palm and citrus recovery and may assist them in replacements if necessary.

Planted a Queen palm that most likely gets replaced every year. It barely fit in my car lol20250329_153022.thumb.jpg.0c1e12edcbe69d5e9cb6c68b3ec044f0.jpg

If it ends up being an annual, at least it will be a nice annual.

Yes, I think so too.  They had slightly larger ones but they wanted over a 100 dollars for it I only paid 60 dollars for the smaller ones.

I'm glad I wasn't the only crazy one lol. Did you get the looks on the road like I did ? Haha.  Man, I had such a hard time getting the palm inside my car. I wish I had some straps to tight the fronds together.  Next time I'll be prepared.

Actually I put the passenger seat down to almost horizontal and pushed the fronds in towards the back at an angle (behind my side) and the pot fit in between the passenger seat and the dashboard.  Fronds were tied up and bent slightly but the entire palm was contained inside the vehicle so with my tinted windows nobody noticed!  :) No wind damage or damage to the new spear either.

Crazy was doing the same thing with this 15-gal Cyphophoenix elegans plus adding 5 other palms and driving that way 1,550 miles from Riverside, California!  😆rsz_img_20250324_125741998.thumb.jpg.7e17257507d15ae70f769abca4994306.jpg

Most likely two different species. M. california, as the name suggests, is a west coast native.

Jon, I want to ask you ....you didn't go to Cali just to pick up that palm didn't you ? 1500 miles on the road with palm trees in your car. You sure go the extra mile for a good palm tree haha. I give you a two thumbs up for that.

I have cousins in Ventura County, California that I hadn't seen in several years and stopped by my sister's for a visit also but the palms were the motivation to make the drive!  😁  Only one of the six palms I got are available anywhere in Texas that I am aware of and the one that I could get here would have been more than double the cost.  The Cyphophoenix elegans was the one that I wanted most and it will likely be planted next week.  All of the others are already in the ground.

Recently purchased a windmill palm & phoenix dactylifera this past month. Found a spot for the windmill but still up in the air of where I would want to plant the date.

These "sable miner" (Sabal minor) will grow faster once in the in the ground and are a very resilient palm.  Do you winter protect these in your climate?

I don't need to give them protection here but normally the first winter I give them a little bit of protection but this one I'm not going to protect it's in a good microclimate on the South side of the house
