Planted from a 6" pot around 10 years ago it's certainly grown better than expected.  Plenty of rain and not much competion from other palms helps.

I wish mine will end up looking like that. Alas they're very slow to start here in the cooler Cloudforest above Hilo in Hawaii. Not sure what the issue is, these are rather rare in East Hawaii maybe they need more heat. 

Once in awhile I do look up and noticed how beautiful these Satakentia look. Planted back in 2011, the trio are powering on. Elegant palm with a smooth trunk, shiny chocolate crown shaft, and dropped fronds are lightweight, not crushing lower vegetation.

Cindy, that is bad to hear.

For some reasons the Satakentia palm over here is immune against our local rhinoceros beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros).

that is nice of you to mention it!

After a couple of devastating typhoons during the last years I planted a couple of them in hope to have something left in case that my other plants might get wiped out.

Since we haven't had a direct typhoon hit for more than two years, the garden is now exploding - it is "jungling" beautifully.

I'll do an update but in another thread - let's keep this one as it is to celebrate @steve99's beautiful palm.

Found out the hard way on my two that heavier soil is a no go. They may love rain, but not when it's potted in heavier cheap potting mix🙄(I thought I amanded enough, but not enough to stop fusarium/phytophthora on anything I put in it so I won't buy that again).  They need that same type of drainage most palms do even with the water, so tomorrow when I buy more I have a better mix to accomplish that.  Since I like watering, and have a dripper for them all on high quality well water, I'm hoping that's the ticket. (I always use good quality fertilizer too)
