Closed the door to my small greenhouse and it became too hot. The lights I had made it really warm near the crown and it looks bad. The fronds are drooping, the spear is wobbly (but won’t pull thankfully) and it’s very black/brown. What should I do? Can I save the fonds? Please helpIMG_3084.thumb.jpeg.5ce41a15e08c7a7e85ef8ef69ee8948a.jpegIMG_3085.thumb.jpeg.db088f255e816c05578c0ef82f6e68f1.jpegIMG_3087.thumb.jpeg.d6ea218f15d3dc743502b4d32e922bed.jpegIMG_3086.thumb.jpeg.af64cdf0edd958fbbb8976264d804856.jpeg

The leaves look like toast. Hopefully the bud is fine (probably is). I've done that before with mini lights...it gets surprisingly hot if you crowd them enough and trap the heat in (thoroughly crisped part of my longan tree). Condolences

What are your temperatures like? It seems like you shouldn’t need lights if you have a greenhouse.

its less of a greenhouse and more of a plastic bag. it dosen't retain heat at night and gets cold, so i put so lights in there. i guess today it got especially hot in there and warmed to 113 degrees and the light heated it to who knows what temperature.

Never use plastic use frost cloth instead.  Nothing can be done now.  Go to my YT and look up palm protection mistakes video.  Just try to keep it dry till spring

Same thing happened to me. It’ll be fine. The burnt new spears will still grow and eventually be replaced.

I’ve put it inside to just keep it warm and we will figure out a how to keep it outside and alive properly. A lot of the fronds were already gone so I left the ones that don’t look dead at the base. The incoming frond looks bad but the other two look ok so I think it will recover. If there’s anything else I should do, I would like to know.image.thumb.jpg.fe5f2d4d12b2eded27f9309bf9b4d1b8.jpgimage.thumb.jpg.894c3c2d1a3dde96865dc720c4ed3369.jpg

Time will tell on that one but I think it will pull through. They’re pretty tough palms . Once that burnt section of the crown grows out I think it will be ok. Harry

H020 (Hydrogen peroxide 3%) and trim out the dead brown material, which by the looks of it is the entire crown of fronds and emerging spears.

I cut off all the dead fronds and put a lot hydrogen peroxide on the spears. It looks like this nowIMG_3229.thumb.jpeg.d6dc4709dccfbc2c58fa6e13d63f5e26.jpeg(ill cut the part of the spear with mold soon) it sad it was looking good for the first time this year..

Damn Tanner, looking great!  Just drove through Odessa on the way back from Albuquerque. Was super impressed to see some good sized Washingtonia on loop 338 on the west side of town. Also saw many Sabals that look newly planted at shopping areas on the same route.  They are wrapped for the winter in prep for cold weather.  I'd bet they'd do well for you also.

Many palms also in McCamey, and even a few nice big filifera in Hobbs!

Happy New Year!
