Hello everyone! I ordered Heterospathe califrons seeds, upon receipt of my order I removed the fibers from the seeds and there were unpleasant surprises! Eleven seeds were bitten out of 20! In addition a tiny insect came out of the bag !Do I have a chance of it germinating?
What do you think?
THANKS!

That's disappointing. In my experience, when seeds have holes like that and you cut them open, there is often a cavity or dried out brown center rather than a creamy white endosperm. I would test one or two of the ones with holes by slicing it open along a vertical axis.

Heterospathe califrons seeds are ruminate as opposed to homogenous, so there should be darker streaks in the endosperm, but if there's a cavity in there they are no longer, or never were, viable.

You can file a claim with RPS.  I have had a similar issue and they sent new seeds.

If you're going to file with them for anything, CALL THEM, do not bother emailing them.  You will get a much faster response this way...

I already contacted them by email, they responded quickly, but for them they checked all their seeds and no holes! So it's lost for me! Yet the proof is there! Normally they should have proposed a solution, but nothing on their part. I am very disappointed! In any case this is the first time that this has happened to receive pricked seeds. There was perhaps negligence on their part, it could happen! But they have nothing wanted to hear and that's what I find unfortunate! I put them in germination we'll see, but I think the chances for germination are very limited!

They might be able to germinate because I already had experience with Socratea exorrhiza seeds which had holes and which germinated! Fingers crossed!

The holes in them are from bugs that ate the inside and I would not expect germination from those seeds.  But, it's worth a shot if you had success before.

I'm shocked they responded quickly to your email, but I'm not surprised by their response.  They should take responsibility for it and it's unfortunate they are not.  It's reasons like this i won't do business with them anymore...(but in reality I don't have a need for it anyway).

I had succeeded with Socratea, we'll see! I completely agree with you, they should have assumed their responsibility and found a solution to this problem! Everyone knows in the plant world that pricked seeds are not good sign for germination! That's why the seeds are treated! Strange that RPS doesn't think like that, a professional who sells seeds! Anyway, I'm going to try and we'll see!
