How to keep the terrible houseplant alive during winter?

so I have had this Ravanea since April, and now that it’s October, I have to bring it in. Are they really that bad to take care of indoors? My room hovers around the mid 70°f-80°f all the time and usually has humidity hovering around 50%.

I would set up a pallet outside. Twice a month, take it outside, flood the soil and treat for insects. Just give it about 30 to 60 minutes of sun, then bring it back inside.

I find that daily spritzings really help.

Set it in a bright window away from air vents and pair it with a grow light on a timer. Just be prepared to fend off spider mites. If you're able, set it out on nice days. My experience with that size is it'll keep fine through a winter, and it will still drink a lot even indoors. May look a little rough by the end but it will reward you come spring.

Everything they said, grow lights, windows, spritzing. But for me the most important thing is going outside. I've had mine for 4 years, and my belief is that the best thing is being outside. You are farther north than me so you may not get as many warm spells as I. Any time it's going to stay 32 or more over night it stays outside. Mine get some sun depending on time of day but winter sun is weak and going in and out of the house all winter keeps them acclimated. I water it pretty good each time it goes outside and generally when they come back in.  Mine has done well, little bit of scale but nothing to bad. Most people aren't crazy about the idea of packing plants in and out all winter so that's why so many die IMO.

Good Luck

Honestly I will lose a few fronds over winter, but it's happier than my Foxtail. It doesn't look good till midway through summer.

Use loam clay potting soil.  Go for bright, indirect light by a window shade.  Mist it daily.  Keep away from heating/cooling vents.

This may be the best for any indoor palm.

Majesty Palms have a low tolerance for dry , arid conditions. They want humidity and  lots of sunlight , indirect when young and slowly gaining direct. I had one in a pot for a few years but , after trying as a house plant , put it in a lath house where my other potted plants were and it did well for a time. Shortly after buying my new house , I dug a hole and put it in the ground where it is today , thriving and very large . Honestly , not a good choice for indoors , it will take constant attention to keep it looking good . Even harder than most indoor plants . Harry

so far it's just opening up a frond, which is a good sign right now.
