Tropical storm bent what appears to be the spear in my queen palm tree. It seems to be hanging on by what looks like shredded fibers? I'm not sure if the tree will be able to bounce back or not....

Welcome to PalmTalk!  Not far away, the wind hasn't gotten very high here, but my property is bordered by plants and fences on all but one side.  The palm should be able to push the rest of the spear that is still down in the crown and recover after the storm passes.

Thank you very much.

I would suggest removing the grass around the trunk about a 3 ft radius for enhanced aeration as well as reducing the chances of any fungus or trunk rot. Stay safe

Also, lay a 3' diameter circle of wood mulch (2-3 bags) around the trunk to stifle weeds, conserve moisture in dry season & keep roots warmer in winter. I'm not positive but I think Lakeland is in NFL, yes? There are so many "Lake this & Lake that" all over FL. If so, that struggling queen under open sky may be in danger if an arctic front strikes you this coming winter. Unless you plan to treat it as an annual, plan how to protect it.

No, it's on the I-4 corridor between Orlando and Tampa.

With a record low of 20F since 1944 in the official records and before 1917 if the COOP records are included, Syagrus romanzoffiana (Queen Palm) is relatively safe.

Thanks for the clarification. Still too many "Lake This & Lake That" in FL.

I too have a center spear cracked on my King.  Last night Debby came through with constant rain.  6.75 inches from backyard rain gauge    Some winds that I guess were strong  and cracked my king’s center spear.  Should I get a ladder and clip this off or should I let the palm take care of itself?  King is about 6 years old.  Looks a mess in the center crown.

My king palm did the same last year during a storm. I clipped the spear about 2” from the growth point and it never skipped a beat.
