Recently my banana had spider mites, so I used dishwash solution which burnt it. Some of that soaked into the soil, I’ve also been watering once a day washing the whole plant to try and rinse any mites off. Anyways I noticed the hole where the new growth is had standing water in it. The “spear” has some browning in it. It could be fungus from the water, over watering damage, or damage from the soap chemicals going in the soil. Any thoughts or ideas how to reverse this damage? Hopefully the leaf after this looos better. I’ll just stop watering. This is a Basjoo planted outdoor. IMG_1122.thumb.jpeg.4b129c0e38d2c6e5461feded47f96d37.jpeg

Sorry, I have way too many bananas because the previous owner sold the fruit.

My AE AE that I planted is touchy. but all the rest seem indestructible only briefly playing dead after hurricanes.

I hope some else can help you.

It will be fine I have worked in the banana industry and seen a lot worse than that banana plants with bunches of fruit only with one leaf it was common for us to go around with a high knife and cut the diseased leaves off before long you will be desuckering you’re plant leave two suckers on the sides keeping the ones uphill and they love fertiliser good luck.

How often should I copper fungicide a banana and also should I put a few handfuls of blood feed around it? It has been in the high 80s or low 90s every day with high humidity so it might be too hot but I’m not sure. The fungus is only on 3 leaves so I’ve just sprayed all the areas with fungicide. How many cycles of fungicide will it take to get rid of the fungus?

A healthy banana you should not have to spray myself I would not spray them just fertilise it.blood and bone even better remember you have to eat them yes copper is a good alternative a spray program you should go by the weather if rains are coming spray beforehand at least one spray monthly but the fungus is always in the environment control is more of a solution total elimination will be difficult.

I’ll spray again in 2 weeks then. I’ll do a bit of blood feed tonight I think it might rain. Could even do it now it’s overcast and cooler. I didn’t want to do it on a piping hot day

Yes cool weather is best for spraying I work on a monoculture farm and the hot days we avoid spraying also chicken manure well composted they love.
