This CIDP I have just purchased appears to be planted too deep. I removed the top couple of inches. Is there any other way I could help it? Some of the fonds are brown at the top, but I will just leave them for now, and hope for the best. I got it for 13 euro, so I am surely not complaining :)

@Slifer00 I agree, it's probably 50mm or so too deep.  If it were just a little bit deep I'd leave it.  But at that depth the RIZ (root initiation zone) is probably halfway down the pot.  If it were mine I'd either repot it or dig out another 2-5cm or so of dirt from the top.  Most likely all the roots are circling the bottom of the pot now, so stepping it up wouldn't be a bad idea anyway.

That soil was definitely too close to the top of the pot. It appears to be better now , allowing for decent watering. It seems it was potted in a hurry . After you’ve had it a while and it shows growth , you could repot . Over here they grow like weeds and can fill a pot quickly. Your environment is much different than mine , just keep an eye on the drain holes on the bottom to make sure it doesn’t get root bound. Harry

How long does it take for a CIDP of that size to form the trunk?

From germination I would guess 1 year maybe, give or take. Hard to say for sure
