It May Rain in California

The computer models are all over the place with different opinions on the hour    but the chance for some rainfall looks good.  On Sunday evening a disorganized storm will affect So. Cal.  If the system moves out over the ocean bight it will pickup moisture.  This scenario will hopefully mean rain [.10 to .50] for everyone ex deserts  :P

The gloom has gone [& put out the last fire - Santiago canyon.  Expect wind but overall next week will be perfectly sunny & warm  :D

Bay Area/Nor Cal should have good chance of rainfall, also.

I think I'll water today anyway!

Seeing the sun finally, and a chance of rain tomorrow night has this weekends weather improving quite a bit from the last 6 days.

go for it Terry!

I quit watering according to what the weather reports predict is going to happen a LONG time ago....

even when the "rain" they predict does come, it never seems to be more than a sprinkle.

The San Francisco Bay area got a nice rain last night. I don't know what the rest of the area got, but I recieved close to an inch in Walnut Creek, more than twice what was forcast, and it rained all night. The moisture moved out rapidly this morning, and now there are breaks in the clouds and some blue showing through. It should be sunny and in the mid 60's by mid afternoon.

The first two weeks in October felt more like November, but since then the temps. have been normal to above normal and temps are forcast for above normal for the next week. Normally we get our first light frost around Nov. 15th, but none in sight yet.

Another of the great classic wash outs. Doppler radar shows so little rain, it's not even worth mentioning. It's spitting out, that's about it. You can get more from a really deep marine layer. :(

While the average annual rainfall for San Diego (as measured at Lindberg Field) is just over 10" per year, the past 11 years average out to just over 8" per year. The last 2 years combined is less than 10", and the forecast for this year is for below normal rain.

As I've mentioned before, our pattern rarely includes an average year. 3-to-8 inches for 4-5 years followed by a 17-22 inch El Nino. I know you can't predict the future by looking at the past, but I guess I'm just hoping some kind of law of probablity kicks in.

My expectations are so low, any amount more than 6" for this year will seem like a reason to celebrate.

Yeah, a big nothing!  I hate to get excited about storms that manage to fall apart before entering SoCal  :(

Unfortunately the latest rainstorm moved inland instead of out over the ocean as we hoped for.  I could see radar images of the rain hitting the Tehachapi Mts and dissipating before moving into SoCal.  Many northern storms lose their punch by the time they round Point Conception, because the coastline turns east and the Santa Ynez mts act as a barrier or rain shadow.

It is already mid November and my rain total since July 1 is only 1.95  :( November isn't a particularly wet month for SoCal but it sure would be great if we could see some moisture on the dry hillsides.
