This was mentioned in another thread so I thought I’d start a new thread so people can share their experiences of them.

I planted one about 11 years ago and it strongly resembled pure princeps when it was planted as a 2 litre small plant. It grew rapidly and flowered after only 7 years. It’s a male and it was my pollen that went to Europe and was used as the cross with stonegate form of princeps. So in answer to someone’s question about what they will look like, nobody knows, but it can only possibly look almost identical to princeps.

I actually think this ‘new form’ of princeps ( some call it princeps hybrid but we don’t know what it is crossed with, if anything?) so new form is more appropriate.

Last year I produced new form x new form as I think it’s a fantastic palm without the need the stonegate form. The leaves on this form are larger than any Trachycarpus I’ve seen, they are also quite rigid. The silver colouring on the undersides is less than that of the stonegate form.

It’s my opinion that there are few better garden palms than this one, certainly as far as Trachycarpus are concerned.

Wonderful Palm Vic! any thoughts/experience about the hardiness of this palm? I've heard that is its only weak point.

Not sure why it would be both, parents are very cold hardy.

Fully hardy as far as I’m concerned. I’ve not heard any reports of any damage even in colder winters here in the UK. Mine has seen temps down to -11c with no damage

Both parents? You know what the parents are then?

I do not. However, are you growing any tropical Trachycarpus that could be in the linage? Unless of course it’s not a hybrid at all….

Very nice looking for sure .

As I mentioned , I'm looking forward to my Green Form Princeps being a female and crossing it with my Nainital .

My Green Form is growing really fast  ( I fertilized and have been watering ) with one spear almost fully opened , and another starting to open , and 2 others right behind those .

I'll take pollen from this Nainital .

After seeing your photos I could not withstand to order some of the New form seeds of your webshop and some already sprouted. I was wondering, are these seeds offspring of the palm in your photos?

Posted

Yes. The seeds were from the palm in the last photo.
