Chamaerops Humilis - Mediterranean Fan Palm - Supporting my palm after splitting the twin trunks

Recommended Posts

Hi, i have a 15 year old Fan Palm which has been fantastic until the past 2 years when one side of the twin trunks has completed died.   The live trunk is now growing with lots of brown leaves and doesnt seem to be thriving.

I was advised to saw the dead trunk down to the base, which i have done today - but the roots have bound it all together so i am not able to split them apart.

Please can you advise what i can do to ensure the health and growth of the live trunk that is left.

I am in the north of England  UK.

Many thanks

Thank you - I have now been able to separate the two trunks and divide the root balls, she has been transplanted and i am hopeful that all will be well.  Sorry i am new to this and i am still working out how to reply to each individual or attach a pic.

I will work it out but for now, thank you for the welcome and i hope i will be able to contribute more going forward.  I will send a pic of my palm once i work it out.

Many thanks

Hi, i have found some old pics and also taken some new pics.

I dont have any that show the dead trunk, but you will see from the pics from 2021 and 2022, things were starting to go wrong.  The last few are after they were separated and repotted.  The ones without dates are todays pics.   There is still some discolouration in the baby leaves and i dont know if this is because my north facing garden is a problem, but it is very windy.   I have moved her to a spot where she is better protected but i am hoping that the new leaves now growing will be better now there is the split and more room for root growth.

If anyone has any futher tips for encouraging or supporting her i would appreciate it very much.

I will attempt to add pics so hope it works.
