Bottle Palm Issues

Featured Replies

Long time listener, first time poster. I purchased a bottle palm today with some leaf issues and want to make sure I’m going down the right path for treatment. The newer leaves seem to be doing ok with a brown spot or two, but the older leaves are showing streaking, spotting and some necrosis. The streaking makes me think a magnesium deficiency and it has some wet feet (will soon be planted in the ground) so maybe it was overwatered at the nursery too? Do you all agree? I plan on applying some PalmGain tomorrow and transplanting this weekend, but any advice would be appreciated!

@Jjpittsy I'd agree, it's most likely some Magnesium deficiency and a bit of sunburn.  The red-brown areas in the leaf below are typical sunburn signs:

Sweet, thank you all!

These don't actually burn solely from the sun, by the way, but from being in the sun with the root zone being too hot with a root mass that doesn't efficiently replenish the water that is transpired through the leaves.  Consequence, generally, of being in a the hot sun in a black pot with a large-ish plant.  Generally being in the ground will make this go away.
