My Areca Palm has developed two large beautiful flowers. Knowing they would make a mess, I cut them down, and observed each frond had scores of tiny white flowers that were brimming with nectar.

I tasted the nectar and it was sweet and delicious. It tastes like coconut water or mild maple syrup.  Does anyone know the health aspects of these flowers? Are parts of then Areca palm edible?image.thumb.jpeg.801b40978ff673701583243a60c24a26.jpegThis photo taken before the flowers emerged.

Are you speaking of the Areca genus from tropical Asia?

Or do you mean the Chrysalidocarpus nee Dypsis lutescens from Madagascar, also misnamed “Areca palm” or “Golden Cane Palm”?

I’m not aware that flowers from either are harmful if eaten but I have no intention of finding out because I’m allergic to every pollen I can think of. I know that flowers from male Chamaedorea tepejilote palms are eaten in Central America. If you aren’t allergy-prone you might want to sample Golden Cane inflorescenses. Still, if no one on PT provides the info you want, I suggest you do your own research online before you toss palm flowers into your salad.
