Trachycarpus Princeps new form x Princeps

Hi everyone,

I recently bought this seedling and I was wondering if anyone else is growing this hybrid.

I would love to see how it would look over time.

I don't have it but princeps "new form" look like stretched out princeps. I would imagine this cross to look very similar to pure princeps but maybe grow faster.

Thats exactly what I was hoping for, the white backs/hardiness of the Princeps and the growth speed/large palmate leaves of the new form.  I also got a new form and princeps about the same age, maybe its interesting to keep them together to notice the differences.

I have a male Nainital and the Green Form Princeps that I'm hoping is a female . That might possibly make for a really pretty palm  with good hardiness . I'm just waiting to see if my Princeps is a female . Should be evident next year or the next as big as it's getting .

Thanks for sharing, that would be another very promising palm! A few years back I ordered some Nainital x Princeps seeds from Victor Silver, but these unfortunately didnt geminate for me. So in the same order of the new form x princeps I also ordered a Kumaon x Princeps seedling (image below).  I think the Kumaon is quite similar to the Nainital. I'll keep you guys posted about the progress of my princeps hybrids.

What does a large palm of  the " New Form Princeps "  look like  ? I know of the silver form and my green form , but I don't know about the " new form " . I'd  like to see a picture . I just saw that it is Kumaon and Princeps .Keep us posted on how it looks over time . 

What I do know is that the fronds on my Green Form are beautiful . That form with the stoutness and hardiness of a Nainital might be the Holy Grail of hardy palms . And possibly other hybrids , as you mentioned , would too  be  a hardy palm with exceptionally beautiful fronds ? 

Maybe I'll give you seed of my Nainital / Princeps and you give me seed from your Kumaon /Princeps and we'll make a hybrid of those when they are mature ?

I don't have a picture of a mature New form myself but I came across this image in the past. http://www.palmvrienden.net/forums/download/file.php?id=54436 Its has larger fronts and a pretty white backsides too.

The Kumaon or Princeps that I've got myself are still seedlings, so to be able to collect seeds it will take aleast 15 years

Wag x Prin are turning out to be good looking palms.  Back of the leaves are very blue.  Tops are blueish.  Looks better stretched out a bit planted in a shady spot.

Thank you for sharing, a few of the nicer specimens, lovely! Haven't found that much photos of larger princeps hybrids yet. I agree that the crown often will be more impressive on shadier spots, I've seen it in Italy where those were growing in the forests.

I'm sorry this nanital x princeps didn't d well for you.. They were stubbornly slow to germinate, and took 18 months for me....longer than anything except pure princeps for me, but the seedlings I now have are seriously attactive palms with small compact leave like princeps.

Oh wasn't expecting the seeds to germinate after 1,5 year, I probaly was not patient enough.. good lesson!
