My idea on my volunteer Trachys worked .

I accidentally sprayed some small volunteer Trachys with Roundup . The Mugwort was so thick I didn't realize that I was spraying the volunteer Trachys  too , which were  under the leaves of the Mugwort  .  My idea was to cut off the Trachy fronds which contained most of the chemical and it worked . The palms are growing out nicely in just a few weeks .

It's a  fun palm  to grow especially knowing  that  I have had #5   7B winters and have had #3  7A  winters over the last 30 years , or about 25% of my winters . My average 30 year lowest Low is 12.7F , but those 7B's or  worse happen every 4th year  .

I also protect the trunk more than 25% of the winters because I protect the trunk when I think it will get below 15F . I have had #14 winters in the last 30 years  that got down to or higher than   15F , so #16 winters went below 15F . I did have #2 14F Lowest lows in the last 30 years , so that is close to 15F . I'm not sure exactly  how much  cold I should allow it to get down to without protection  ? Protecting it is a pain especially as it grows taller .

Thanks ,

Will
