Coconut palm identification- orange variety

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I understand it can be hard to identify coconut palm varieties, but I was wondering if anyone had any idea what these could be? To me it looks like some kind of cross/hybrid between a yellow and orange coconut, as both colors are showing in the coconut and petioles. The nursery I bought it from had no idea what kind. It seems like a unique tree as the coconut has an interesting color.

I purchased the tree in the first picture, the second picture is the sister tree that is taller and is producing coconuts, the third picture is a coconut from the 2nd tree, and the last picture is the petioles up close the day of the transplant.IMG_2919.thumb.jpeg.afb2b6be372ad6ee155adba7886b30a7.jpeg72685564415__71ECCD13-09C9-4E3C-8995-FECB5275D41F.thumb.jpeg.dd093c06c1ea356dc1989bda3e48b6ee.jpegIMG_2978.thumb.jpeg.7c559bd5af12ef7f29bed60deabdfd22.jpeg72747212964__D92E1016-5AAF-4472-A816-8255D3503FD1.thumb.jpeg.f4740315c4a5b310870e768f5e5100f1.jpeg

It's a Golden Malay Dwarf, quite a tough little palm, I love mine but it's only been in the ground a couple of years so is yet to fruit. It was only about 40 cms high when I bought it and it has a little trunk already and 1.8 metre  long leaves.  The coloured coconuts are a feature of the species.
