What happen to my Areca Palm

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum, and I love gardening, I don't know how to approach it, but I have a question for my Areca Palm tree.

My Areca Palm tree leaves are getting yellow and brown, my location is India, Can anyone suggest to me, why this is happening to my palm tree?

Thanks!
Pankaj

Sunburn? Is that planting box located in full sun? Areca palms, i.e., Chrysalidocarpus lutescens (not Areca genus) tend to bleach out/turn yellow in full sun in hot climates. They look best in part shade esp. when young like yours.

Wait! Are those palms really in pots or did you post this topic in the wrong sub forum? If they are potted you should move them out of direct sun to where they have canopy during the heat of the day.

Hi Meg,

Thanks for the quick response, I have planted them directly, they are not in a pot. And yes at least till 3 pm there is full sunlight on them, the issue is that I can't move them, so should I put a green shade net on them so that there will be no direct sun on them?

Do you have any suggestion for me?

If you are even a bit handy, you should be able to erect a wood frame around each palm and cover it (the frame) with shade cloth like the one in your photo. You can get a shade cloth with grommets et. al. or buy a few yards of bulk shade cloth. Go with 50% shade or greater. Anything less would not be effective under a tropical sun. The palms should harden up once they get larger
