Areca catechu is a Zone 11 palm according to Dave's Garden. A temperature of over 40°F must be the minimum for it to flourish.

Please post your Areca catechu and describe temperatures it has been exposed to and your experience.

Please find a local an Areca catchetu in PB approximately 10 years old. It has been exposed to temperatures a bit over 40°F approximately once a cold season:FAA918CF-AA2C-44C7-ACF7-A765CA094C1D.thumb.jpeg.5771e2333c846b2cba2648d750061259.jpeg

Very nice, @bubba!

The standard Areca catechu seems to be zone 10b-11a minimum for growth.  The one you posted is gorgeous!

The Dwarf variety is somehow hardier.  We had two in town; one at Common Ground and one at City Hall.  Both made it through the January 2022 cold snap with no problem.  I'm not sure what the bottom temperature at Common Ground was that January, but the City Hall garden did not go below 35F.  The airport bottomed off at 29F.  If you go to the link, there are photos of each on that thread.

The December 2022 cold snap took the airport down to 28F/29F.  Downtown hit 32F at Hollis Gardens by comparison.  The palm at Common Ground survived the initial cold onslaught with very little damage, but caught a crown infection and died.  The one at City Hall survived the cold snap, but not the shovel.  They don't like brown fronds at City Hall.

Not a great palm for here if you want something that will last a decade or more in the ground, but the dwarf variety stays small enough to keep potted on a patio and bring it indoors.

That is a beauty! Do you know if it is a dwarf or is it a standard variety?

These were from dwarf seed but as you can see are not dwarf. I call the middle one a semi-dwarf which was the look I was hoping for in this planter:

Here are a couple of true dwarfs (with he dogs for scale):

All of these above were planted about 4 years ago from 3 gallon pots. Big Island, Hawaii

This is another one on my want list. So much palm envy lately.
