My little Kerriodoxa elegans update

Featured Replies

I have been growing these Kerriodoxa for about a year or so all home germinated in my hothouse they are my absolute favourites in palms second only to joey palms in my garden  an absolutely beautiful palm to grow with outstanding new leaves and petioles these little babies are destined for a mass planting of around 200 at bottom of my property near my gate and the rest of off to market there’s about 1000 so definitely worth doing on a large scale production project to supply the domestic market in around 5 to 10 years time unfortunately palms are slow to reach top dollar in the subtropical climate not like North Queensland but there definitely worth growing especially if growing them for a hobby to make a few bucks on the side later on actually to heck with the domestic market I just love to grow palms full stop I’ll plant the lot instead a much better investment for the planet 🌎

They look healthy. That is about the size of most of the palms I started with. Very rewarding to see them as mature palms now 25-30 years later. My Chemboynia and my Pritchardia started out in 4” bands from Maui, both are well overhead now! Same with most of them. That is why I do it, watch ‘em grow , Harry

Thanks Harry they are my babies that’s for sure it is very satisfying to import and germinate seeds to watch them grow to maturity with every season watching them change kinda a zen moment in motion Richard

Amazing work and volume. I too hope to get a hold of a bunch of this seed to grow out one day. Thanks for the updates.

Nice healthy looks plants! I fell in love with Kerriodoxa elegans on a visit to Bo's garden in Hawaii several years ago. @bgl had a pathway under a canopy of K. elegans that just blew me away. Once I got home the search was on for seeds. I finally got some and now have a few planted around thge garden.

18n. Hot, humid and salty coastal conditions.

Grown perfectly. 😀

Millbrook, "Kinjarling" Noongar word meaning "Place of Rain", Rainbow Coast, Western Australia 35S. Warm temperate. Csb Koeppen Climate classification. Cool nights all year round.

The tiny baby Kerri I had from you 6 months ago has been growing much faster than I expected. It's in the shadehouse and handling this recent spate of really cold weather.  If anyone wants a strong healthy seedling @happypalms is the person to contact.

Peachy

PS Freckles sprouted her seedlings last night. 3 of them are parti colours like her.  This colouration is so rare that although I have had Pekingese most of my life, I only saw my first one 5 years ago.

Puppies!!! Congratulations!!! Will they keep you company or are homes awaiting them?

@happypalms -- Nice work with your little Kerriodoxa! This is a favorite palm, for sure, hard to find anything more elegant than a trail lined with them. Mine are producing seed, but my first germination efforts have been too haphazard for success, but more seeds await.

Alas, I am just the Daddy's mama so unless one of them develops excellent show potential then they will be sold by their other Granny. He has been busy the last few months and made me a grandmother several times over. Who could have thought that the tiny white ball of fluff I nurtured with so  much love and care has become the icon of fecundity. Best of all, I get  the cuddles and kisses,  their other granny gets sleepless nights, huge vet bills and tons of poo poo to clean up.
