Yes, they are slow to germinate but they are also (very) slow growers. I have two seedlings as wedding presents for my still-to-be-conceived grandchildren :) No new leaves during the dry season, but I've noticed movement again now the rains have begun.

Well worth the wait though. They are gorgeous palms.

For those of you that frequent Facebook, I’ve set up a group called “Pommy palms”, where many of the palms I’ve seen since emigrating to Australia have been documented. If you wish to be a member, copy and paste “Pommy palms” into Facebook to view the page and click “Join group”.

They’re a real rarity so it’s great you have a few healthy ones going.

Millbrook, "Kinjarling" Noongar word meaning "Place of Rain", Rainbow Coast, Western Australia 35S. Warm temperate. Csb Koeppen Climate classification. Cool nights all year round.

I regret not purchasing seed of Voanioala gerardii when RPS were offering them. Love that species. Hopefully they'll do the rounds again soon.

The old saying if you see a palm you have always wanted buy it no matter what the cost you may never see it again for sale rps are always worth keeping an eye on for new seeds you never know what Tobias will come up with

Did you apply bottom heat while germinating these? I will hopefully get some seed for these and wondering if they come up better with bottom heat or not.

Species I'm growing from seed: Verschaffeltia splendida, Chrysalidocarpus leptocheilos, Licuala grandis, Hyophorbe verschaffeltii, Johannesteijsmannia altifrons, Bentinckia condapanna, Livistona benthamii, Licuala mattanensis 'Mapu', Beccariophoenix madagascariensis, Chrysalidocarpus decaryi.

No bottom heating was used only a hothouse but they took a long time I have some seeds coming and I will be using bottom heating this time to help speed up the process the person I got my seeds from in Australia asked me how I did mine and pretty well much said the same as kentia seeds the germination process.
