I had sowed some CIDPs 3 months ago (canary island date palm) . After a few weeks, I just left the unsprouted seeds in the pot and forgot about them. To my surprise, one of them managed sprout all this time later! The shell was so soft that i just wiped it off with my fingernail like a feather (you can see it just below the sprout)

So, what do I do with it now? Should I just leave it as is, and see if it manages to grow? Or should I just through it out and take the loss...

Thanks.

Bad news... That is not a palm tree sprout.🤷‍♂️

Palms are monocots, and sprout up like a single blade of grass. Might be interesting to see what it turns into though.

What else did you sow in that pot?  Phoenix canariensis seeds do not look like that when they sprout but beans do.  Phoenix palms are remote germinators.  I've attached a photo of my seedling that shows the palm actually growing away from the seed - attached to the seed by the white seed petiole.

Really? That is weird. I have sowed sweet peppers in the same pot alongside CIDP.

ah, well. guess I will see what it really is in a weeks' time. I'll keep you updated! More confusingly is that the seed appeared to be similar to the one on the CIDP??

It does look similar but so does a roasted coffee bean.  😆  I recently germinated a loquat seed and it germinated the same way as your sprout.  Perhaps a bird or squirrel left that seed for you as a gift!  I've personally seen sunflowers growing in palm pots outdoors.  Not your typical weed but still an unwanted plant in a particular spot.
