I planted the first palm at my new house today.  It was a 45 gallon monster with about 3 foot of trunk that had wayyy outgrown its container.  Phoenix sylvestris is the species.  probably weighed 500lbs.

That pygmy palm was there from the builder and is getting ripped out to install a patio, so I don't count it.

Edit: Photo working now!

I was in this situation 30 months ago but instead of level lawn I just had mud, builder's rubble and mounds of useless dirt. You have made a good start already.  I could never be able to dig a hole large enough for anything in a pot bigger than 20cms, usually I have to stick with 13 cm pots and be very patient until they grow. Even though there is only one palm at the moment your house looks 'finished' and lived in. Good start ! I would plant some pretty annuals of some type around the base to give the garden a touch of colour.

Looks good , that is huge . Looks like it’s been there a while instead of something that was just planted. Harry

That house is pretty awesome, but painted black in Arizona? Seems like the electricity bill is going to be insane!

That being said, maybe it's a good reason to plant a dense palm forest for shade 👍

Congrats to homeownership! :)
I’m sure you have plans to entirely change the front yard landscape.

@ahosey01 congrats brother! That black house is dope. Excited to see what you do with the landscaping; the color combo is sure to be eye catching and that Sylvester is a great anchor tree, well done 🤙

Arizona is where I used to live.  We sold our house there and now we’re in Brownsville, Texas. Still hot, but like 95 instead of 115. lol

Congratulations Adam.  I'm sure it was a little difficult letting go of a home you invested so much effort into creating both indoor and outdoor spaces (your garden).  It is also fun to take the experience and apply it to a new blank slate.   Your first planting of many I suspect.  Hopefully you are learning about your new climate and what you can grow as well as zone push there.  Looking forward to watching your results.
