17 Yr Old Majesty, Repotting help

Featured Replies

So glad to have found this forum today. I have a 17 year old majesty palm that looks terrible but is very sentimental. It got sunburnt in the car while moving across the country about a year ago, but continues to produce new fonds and plenty of seed pods.

I staked it with wooden dowels before the trip. Now that I know it has survived, I’m ready to repot. But the trunk is so thin, and I’d like to plant it deeper in a bigger pot. How high up the exposed trunk can I go? Can I plant it deep enough to cover the skinny green section? Go a little deeper and cover the slightly wider brown segment? Or go all the way and burry it to the base of the plant?

I’m afraid of making the wrong choice and killing it. After 17 years, it’s been all over the country with me. Thanks

This is not a majesty palm, it looks to be a Chamaedorea elegans or the Parlour palm. I’m not sure about covering the exposed trunk, I’m sure other people could help.

Awesome! Thanks for identifying! I went back and forth this morning trying to decide if it was parlor or majesty.

Thanks. I was scratching my head at this.
