Growing Syagrus werdermannii in pots.

This palms seems to grow in a very sandy soil when I look at habitat pictures of this dwarf Syagrus. Is it a dificult plant needing special soil requirements? I have bought a small seedling and right now it is growing in a good draining organic rich soil. My climate is too cold to grow this palm outside so it will have to spend it's life in a pot.  For the first few years I will give it some extra love in winter with a grow light during the darkest months untill it is a little more grown up.

Any information about growing this species in pots is welcome. Soil requirements, water, light and temperatures requirements, etc.....

But:

»seems to grow in a very sandy soil«

So I would use a very sandy soil e.g. for cacti.

Does that sand help with drainage?

What ration to potting mix do you use?

1/5? 2/5?

Yes the sand will help with drainage.   As to the ratio, sometimes is depends on the palm, but mostly I shoot for equal parts.
