What are your recommendations? I want to see the most awe-inspiring botanical/palmarium gardens. @piping plovers perhaps has some knowledge on this topic?

Depending on how long you're planning on roaming the state:

Leu Gardens - Orlando

Selby Botanical - Sarasota  ...And the Palm / Cycad collection at Kopsick,  ...Just north of Sarasota near Downtown St. Petersburg.

...And Fairchild ( ....of course )   ..And The Kampong ( National Tropical Botanical Garden ) also in the Miami area..

Natural areas ( ...to see Palms like Royals and some of the FL. Native  sps / other native " tropical " stuff in habitat )  include:  Everglades / Big Cypress / Fakahatchee Stand ...and numerous spots on the Keys  ...If you're able to make it down that far.

There isn't anything much north of the Florida botanical gardens in largo on the west coast unless you also enjoy the natural marshes and sandhills.  But I second what the others have said here.  And bok tower gardens although I have not been there yet and don't know about any palms there.

It really depends where you're going. You're not going to be able to see the whole state unless you have a lot of time. It's bigger than most people think. For example, Key West to Pensacola is a 12 hour drive. Your best bet is probably the southeast corner where the climate is most suitable and the biggest cities are. However, if you're in Gainesville, the Butterfly Rainforest is a lovely, well taken care of exhibit. In Orlando, Leu Gardens has an extensive palm and cycad collection and Mead Gardens has some cycads as well. In Tampa/St Pete, Kopsick is a must-see and Sunken Gardens has a tropical theme too.

Visiting family for a couple days in Venice (just north of Ft. Myers area). Spending about 9-10 days total in May. I want to hone in on the south Miami/Homestead area, the keys, and southwest Florida.

Since you'll be in the Venice area, Selby is a great choice. I know it's already been mentioned but I second that choice. It has beautiful views out on the bay. And there's good food, tons of shops, and sightseeing nearby, the gulf beaches (lido key) are right there, and it's just a really nice garden. It's a great, central spot for a lot of fun things. Me and my family are members and go there all the time and take any guests we have out there and everybody always loves it, even the kids. Also, I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but Naples has a really good botanical garden as well. I was just out there in December and they have a lot of nice palms. They have a lot of the cuban palms.. copernicias, coccothrinax, all the Florida natives like pseudophoenix, thrinax, etc. and then chambeyronias, pritchardia, satakentia, lots of different dypsis, some arecas, coconuts of course, licualas, neovetchia, and many, many more.

I’d second all of the above.
I’d say Kopsick and Sunken Gardens are 15 minutes apart and aren't too far from where you’ll be staying. Both can be done in the same day.

Sorry I was late to the conversation. Lol.  Yes, I have to agree with the others above.  Fairchild in the Miami area, Selby Gardens for orchids and other amazing tropical epiphytes (aroids, etc) and palms in Sarasota , and also Flamingo Gardens in Davie?(ft lauderdale area).  I really like the Miami Zoo as well; tropical landscaping that is so lush and fits well with the equally exotic fauna.  These are the only four I have visited in FL and would enjoy hearing about more. I posted on some of these in the travel threads. I know others have as well if you want to see a preview in photos.

I hope you enjoy your trip!

And I forgot to add the Naples Botanical Garden.  A beautiful, well done place.  Have not been there since prior to hurricane Ian; so, don’t know how the garden was impacted.  Maybe others in SWFL can provide an update.

I'm surprised you're the only one that recommended that garden. That's right up the alley of the IPS.

I think it's better then Fairchild, really cool stuff. Both are awesome but I love this one.

I’ve never visited.  Based on the address it looks to be in same neighborhood as Fairchild ?  I’ll need to visit when down there again.
