What are the chances of these seedlings surviving?

So I ended up putting some seedlings in ground that I couldn’t keep in my house, and they went through the srtic blast that brought it down to -3f and 8 days below freezing (I put a bunch of mulch on them). I don’t expect them to survive but it would be pretty interesting if they did, lol.  All of them are Sabal Causiarum and one Washy hybrid.

(The one above was right next to my Needle Palm)

With their growth point underground there’s a decent chance, especially if it snowed and insulated them beyond the mulch.. I would leave them alone and see if you get a surprise next summer.

The sabal has a shot. I have left sabal seedlings completely unprotected during similar temps without losing them. Mulch or snow cover is sometimes enough to keep them alive. I wouldn't count on a washy that small though. They have been pretty quick to die on me when they are that size, but that is just my experience.

The good thing with seedlings is they start their growing point underground, so they should be fine until bigger.

DRY, mulch is by far and away the preferred method increasing survival rates. Moisture can introduce molds and fungi.

I’ll keep updating with pictures to record on what happens to them.

I already forgot to update like last week this but oh well (These were all taken Saturday):

The top two Causiarums are still fine, the second seedling seems like the spear got larger, but that’s probably just me. The Washy and the third Causi both seem dead, both spears won’t pull, though.
