What in the name of all the gods? lol this is the canadian model for Houston this coming tues at 6 am... ugh

Screen Shot 2026-01-23 at 12.41.15 PM.png

The Canadian Model must have some really wonky algorithms. I have seen, more than once, isotherms in the lower teens around Las Vegas on their forecast maps..

The Canadian model is always MUCH colder thank any other model. I think it’s likely better designed for Canada and locations above 45N.

I'm not sure what weather tool David Reimer uses for his forecasts but I just watched his latest video and he's predicting even colder temperatures.  For instance 15 to 17f for San Antonio.  I really hope we don't go below 17f.

Hey reminder yall, inaccuweather don’t use it!!! Just DONT! They are very very inaccurate use lots of computers models in forecasts, and basically broke the law with their illegal hurricane forecast tracks saying they were more accurate than official info etc etc. Bad company. On the server I’m on you will get banned for posting inaccuweather stuff.

@Allen Hello brother, I really want you to prepare the situation that’s about to happen in Nashville I hope the warm air pushes up enough to bring rain instead of freezing rain. But man the stuff there that is forecasted is worse case scenario!!!!  Hope the warm nose makes it go above freezing but widespread tree damage and yeah.. maybe not palm damage you know ho tough those fronds are but yeah extensive power outages widespread tree damage and foliage damage. Just make sure to protect stuff that could be sensitive to breaking, I forgot I don’t know if you have bamboo or not but bamboo will be really affected by ice storms. People are saying this will be snowmageddon 2010 (2026 edition) and yeah it will be. Our snow record is on track to break the record 13.3 inches set in the 1800’s!!! At least 7 days below freezing which is.. very not normal not even a once every 5 winter thing this will be insane. Now things can change but this isn’t the type of temps to change.

So let me ask you this. Does it get colder than predicted, now and for the next few days or were the weather forecast for your area as cold as predicted?

Thats actually pretty brutal to be honest, in light of recent years as well where you have had freezes. A low of 16F really not great.

We had the coldest start to a January in 16 years here a few weeks back and St James Park in central London only went down to -3.7C / 25F. London Heathrow in the western suburbs went down to -5.9C / 21F. Again you have to go back 16 years to the last time it was colder than that in early January. Just goes to show how insanely protected we are in the UK and especially London.

I am watching developments from afar. This cold spell influences our weather here due to eastern USA cold inadvertently powering up the jet stream to deliver further mild westerlies off the Atlantic, nullifying any cold air attempts in western and central Europe. In other words, you guys have got the brunt of all the cold air, so we don't have to in Europe (especially western Europe).

Dry-summer Oceanic / Warm summer Med (Csb) - 9a

Average annual precipitation - 18.7 inches : Average annual sunshine hours - 1725

This is absolutely the worst forecast ive seen 😭

The UK is the colder version of NZ in Europe.  You have it pretty good over there while we get beaten up here , even in the South. We possibly could end up colder than predicted.  I wouldn't be surprised if we go below 16f where I'm from. Send us some milder temperatures over here.

The situation with the ice storm is very very bad. This amount of ice in TN.. ALREADY is a very bad sign. Models could have underperformed this will be going on for a bit longer. I think the “catastrophic level area” has moved away from AR and more into MS and TN.

Eh I mean we are leveling off due to the forecast being within 3 days it won’t change as much, the -5F is in 4 days+ so it’s fluctuating. Now -4F but yeah I’d say within 1-3 days least fluctuation 4-10 days don’t trust it yet.

Overall for us this storm wasn’t a bust snow wise. Only got like 3 inches but man we got .75+ inches of ice. Here’s a tree at mah other home. Got above freezing hit like 34F so it melted a bit but yeah it crashed again and now it’s below 20F the damage in Nashville is…absolutely insane. I have never seen a more catastrophic ice storm. Especially places SW of Nashville my lord.

Yeah I realized that when I Created the post I was not thinking clearly obviously. Actually Kentucky does get those wild temperature swings from the warm air from the Gulf and the cold air from Canada But not as bad as the Great Plains

Wild to a point, we get sometimes up to 90F in winter in very rare cases and -10F or so in very rare cases but only a 100 degree possible temp difference in winter, ain’t that bad.

The Pacific Ocean acts to moderate extremes. I'm on the Island (Vancouver Island) in the Pacific Ocean. We have two distinct seasons, the rainy fall and winter, and the dry pleasant summers. Spring is a transitionary mix. Regards.

The Pacific Ocean acts to moderate extremes. I'm on the Island (Vancouver Island) in the Pacific Ocean. We have two distinct seasons, the rainy fall and winter, and the dry pleasant summers. Spring is a transitionary mix. Regards.

Aren't you guys having your mildest winter on record pretty much right now in the PNW?

Seen a number of references to Vancouver having the latest, or joint latest, air frost this winter. Quite a few people saying how mild the autumn/fall and winter has been so far. All the cold in recent weeks has clearly bypassed the west and been funnelled down east of the Rockies. Not seen any kind of major cold for coastal BC and the PNW. Every time I check the temps there this winter, it is as mild as it is here. If not milder.

Although you won't get anywhere milder than the Isles of Scilly off Cornwall at 50N. It is now 8 years since the last nighttime frost in the islands. And 29 years now since the last January nighttime frost back in January 1997, when it went down to -0.2C / 31F.

Just regarding the polar vortex in general, I am seeing a brutal reloading of cold air masses again and again for the northeast and eastern USA over the next 2-3 weeks. The first 2 weeks of February are going to be amongst the coldest on record in Boston, NYC, Washington etc and possibly the Carolinas. Scope for it penetrating into Florida again sometime around the 10th February too.

Dry-summer Oceanic / Warm summer Med (Csb) - 9a
