Cat Palm not looking great

Featured Replies

I have a Cat Palm I'm growing indoors in a fairly dark room. Not a lot if any direct sunlight so I set up a UV light above the palm to see if this would help. It runs for 6 hours per day. It's in a self-watering planter so it's never dry, although it might not get the humidity it needs. However, I've seen much healthier Cat Palms being grown indoors. The main issues are that all the fronds have brown tips, even new ones, and it generally looks very dry.

Overwatering can cause brown tipping too. Do you fertilize it? If not, it probably needs fertilizer too.

Noooo the self watering pot not a good idea especially indoors

Cat palms are almost rheophytes in their natural habitat, I doubt overwatering is a problem. Low humidity or salt buildup might be causing the brown tips. More sunlight would be better than a UV lamp.

All my other indoor palms are self-watering and thriving.

Sunlight not going to be an option, unfortunately.
